I think you’re missing “singer-songwriter” that is, when you have people singing and the words/music are emotional. Kind of a halfway between folk and pop.
Do you consider it pop? Even if it’s not necessarily melodic, etc?say Cat Power, for example….do you consider her pop? But she’s also not rock….so, singer-songwriter. Or?

I will investigate the music industry, the urban myth of genre cycles, the support given to new bands and the desire to move forward.
